PostSubject: Ariocarpus grafted to pereskiopsis   Fri Jan 08, 2010 8:44 pm

Hi

Im new here Smile

I made this A. fissuratus graft about three months ago. However, it did grow at all so i thought i would cold shock it so i put it in the balcony for a month or something. Then brought it back in my grow closet. It started growing but it's very slow compared to L. williamsii grafted to pereskiopsis.

So either the connection of this graft and 2 other arios is weak or ariocarpus grow much slower even when grafted compared to other grafted slow-growing cacti.

Enough talking, here are the pics Wink

This how much it grew in 3 monrhs

The other 2 grafts which are much slower

Yesterday i made an areol graft

Hi Philocacti and welcome Smile

First off nice plants.

To answer a few of your questions. Yes Ariocarpus grafts grow much much slower than Lophophora. However I think given three months your plants should have grown more, the connection between vascular bundle and scion could be an issue. I have found if you wait and let the plant be for a few months they tend to "fix" or mend the vascular issue and begin growing.

thanks

i know these guys who had their Ario grafts flower in 3 months. So now all i have to do is take care of the grafts and wait. Hopefully the vascular ring issue would be solved by time as you said Smile

In the mean time, im hoping that this areol graft would work out.

It definitely looks like it's taken. As HN said, imperfect grafts can be very slow to take off, but once they sort themselves out they usually take off without fuss. I have a loph that I grafted as a seedling and for about four months after grafting it just sat there and did nothing. Then, all of a sudden it quite simply "took off" and hasn't stopped growing since. I wouldn't be at all surprised if your ario did the same.

Yeah, dude, my arios on peres took ages before they greww properly, they are about 2cm wide now with maybe 8 tubercles... i haven't found them to be that quick, but only had two actually take so far...

Got about close to 1500 seeds that i have to put down and soon of ~5 different varieties (couple of rare crosses), come from california and kohres. Smile Hopefully this will assist in getting a few more to take Smile

Nice to read that. I have found this too, glad to know I was not wrong. I have also noted major stallings when the stock insist in pupping again and again

example below

next season will show if they will finally take. All areoles in both myrti are cut!
