Trig,
I can remember bidding on your plant myself, but was surprised that it went as high as it ended up going. It is a nice specimin though and great age.

But getting back to importing - unless you have something special to import, give it away. Try grafting to get size quicker - thats about the only way. All the chemicals they throw on the quaranteened ones, gives them a dubious chance at llife - heard tales of them being left accidently in the freezers...

stick with seed, and graft like there is no tomorrow!

I haven't heard that, but I don't know everything either. I suspect you might be thinking of Aztekium ritterii, an amazing rare and slow growing Mexican cactus that is notoriously difficult to re-root after grafting.

Thanks people, but I can't really take the credit, the person who grew it from seed around about when I was born should take the credit, though not sure who that was anyway, I think it has seen/met a few growers in it's time. I am just lucky enough to get a chance to grow it myself.

Go on Betty treat yourself Wink

It should always be remembered from a collectors perspective that grafted Arios depriciate in value considerably if grafted/de-grafted, own roots are the most collectable and valuable, that said, grafting is probably the best way to get more seed readily.

i had heard that too, but this guy seems to be able to do it:

Shocked these arios are only 2 years old?? shows the power of grafting, A. retusus is supposedly the fastest growing ario however.

Awesome plant Trig, know how old it is approx?

well if you are grafting on pereskiopsis you can graft a couple of days after (or even at) germination. however considerable skill is involved in this. my attempts failed. size doesn't really matter, provided you are able to correctly align the vascular rings of the scion and stock of any two cacti then it may take

Estimated at 30+ years. A. fissuratus don't get much bigger then that one A. fissuratus var. lloydii can though and is much faster than the type. Though fast for an Ario is still pretty slow.

Also on grafting what HN & lewis said but with Arios it is imperative to maintain high humidity and heat when first grafted otherwise the scion will dry.

Hmm getting a bit off topic here, oh well it's 'Around The Fire', it's permissable, and the mod for this forum is on holidays so yeah...let's all crap on hahaha Laughing

San Rainbow, you can graft at a couple of weeks old.

Lewis the guy that showed how to degraft is Frank Kamei, the guy who's plants I showed in an earlier post.

I have a.bravoanus on pereskiopsis that I am going to cut the back in spring. Its quite long so don't want to take chances of it breaking off Shocked

I was told if I leave it at 10cm for now it will be OK. So it will probably have about 5cm out of the soil. The stock is 16cm from soil to ario at the moment and getting a good lean up Suspect

Hey Trig I will definitely treat myself a chrissy present santa good luck with your seeds !!!
