G'day people...

On my drive home from work on a Friday afternoon, I have been known to stop by at various nurseries, garden centres, etc, to see what cacti they have for sale. Over the last month or so I have picked up these Trichos that now need an ID. Any takers?

These first three came in some mixed planters from Bunnings in Frankston. The first two resemble what I have seen for sale as scops at Collector's corner, however to my eye look more like pachanoi. The third could be pachanoi as well, but here I defer to you guys as I really have no clue.

Our next two suspects are from Collector's Corner, and were helpfully labelled as simply "Trichocereus"...

I'm guessing this one is Trichocereus bridgesii, aka Echinopsis lageniformis. Any idea if it's a specific clone/cultivar?

To me, I'd say this looks like a macrogonus or a peruvianus, but I concede that I'm far from an expert.



Any ideas?

The last one looks like a Tricho.tacaquirensis like the one i recently recieved in the mail. The first couple maybe peruvianus? scopula?Good score if they are ,from bunnings,The bridgesii is sweet , 4 ribs like the one i got from shaman australis labelled Echinopsis lagenformis "'Tim"' whoever tim is.

And i also just looked at picture of Browningia pileiffera, which really does look like a tricho>

I'm pretty the sure the first plant is a pachanoi and I think the second one is some kind of peruvianoid.

1. some tricho pachanoi form or poss scopulicola or hybrid
2. possible sibling of #1 ?
3. not sure, peruvianus seedling?
4. i really like, some neat 4 ribbed T.bridgesii/e.lageniformis form. hopefully it stays quad if so i will hit you up for a cutting should it become available.
5. I'm going with macrogonus but I'm probably wrong.

Cheers for all the suggestions, guys. I'm reasonably sure that 1 and 2 are pachanoid, and 3 seems to be similar although the spination is a bit different. Given that they're basically just seedlings, I think it will be a least a couple of years before they start to show their adult forms, and even then it may well be tricky to ID them.

Number 4 is fairly clearly a bridgesii, even to my untrained eye. I hope it maintains its rib structure in any pups that it produces as it is definitely an attractive plant that I'd like to multiply.

So that just leaves number 5. About all I can tell of it is that it is rather blue and rather spiny... As such, I think I'll just let it grow a bit before trying to give it a name.

That #4 bridgie is pretty interesting. The 4 ribbed growth pattern is relatively unusual. Hopefully it remains true. I have a couple of 4 ribbed ones but new growth seems to revert back to the standard 5 ribbed growth.

It is sometimes known as the "4 winds".
