I've often bemoaned the fact that "these things never flower here in Tas because it's not warm enough". ...Well temperatures are still not more than normal, but this one has made a liar of me.

One flower and another bud starting to form.

Can't complain about that I suppose.

This Mamm is one I've had pegged as M. marneriana. These pics were taken one not so fine day so the flowers weren't quite fully open.

Enjoy, CP.

We had quite cloudy weather for wuite long and sudden sun cause some burns. Especially harmed, apart from Euphorbia enopla fresh cuts in perlite/sand mix, was one monstrosa opuntioid I have, which I have also burnt in the past - this time it was even worse though. Photos forthcoming.

I find this of particular concern, because it seems sun changes can alone scar or even kill a plant! I sometimes become obsessed with giving my cacti as much sun as can, but as it seems not all like it as much. ...

This is it's first time in flower, I love the deep pink/purple colour... it make a nice contrast to the usual yellow of other species.

Cheiridopsis purpurea "Hilda Park CP":

I have two really old clumps of Mamm, and one is definitely starting to rot from the inside of the clump, and the other may be getting there. Just wondering if this is normal in old plants? I was talking to a seller from the Cactus Society at the show last year and he was telling me that he just broke up a noto clump that had 'deied underneath' as he put it.

Is it good to break offshoots off clumps as they get bigger?

Also any cutting tips? I'm a bit nervous about breaking them up in one go ...

I purchased some pachanoi the other week, including one not so healthy plant. I saw a small spot of rot on one pot but it was a two plants with five branches in total so I decided to give it a go anyway.

It was badly root bound when I tried to repot it so the roots got quite a beating as I divided it into two plants, I then left it for a week and gave them a dose of anti-rot. Problem is the rot (which is a small spot) seems to have gotten worse. It has not spread, but has deepened in colour ...

Hi!

I've got a Golden Barrel Cactus and I replanted it a couple of weeks ago in a much larger pot. The cactus itself is only a baby - probably less that 10cm high. The pot is WAY too big!! I think it's a 10-12 pot. It's got excellent drainage and I used quality cactus mix.

Will this be ok, or do you think I should find a smaller pot and replant it again? I've heard about root rot, but hopefully it will be ok and not stop it's growth.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi,

I purchased a Trichocereus pasacana plant to add to my small (but growing!!) collection. It is only small at the moment, at around 1 foot tall. I was hoping to see if anyone here has grown one up to maturity. I'm particularity interested to see if any stems have developed of the main trunk.

I purchased it from Plant World in Keysbourough. They have a 10-15yo example there, but it's grow has been stunted as it's in a small pot.

Cheers,

So i've just repotted my first two catus today. Infact it was probably one of the first plants i've repotted but I messed it up. Basically i put the Cactus mix in, then "dug a hole", placed the cactus in and filled it up with the mix. Wrong. I watched a you tube video and it actually suggest to hold the cactus and push the soil between the roots so they aren't "squashed" and can spread out. It took me a few goes to get it right.

Is that how most of the people do ...

Normal fruit of kotschoubeyanus is pinkish white but the hybrid one was quite green.

I sowed seeds on 07/10/09 and germination ratio was poor. Seedlings were pale compared to other Ariocarpus seedlings.

I grafted 2 seedlings on07/11/09 and it seems they have taken.

I took photo today. I also sowed additional seeds yeaterday.
