PostSubject: Onzuka banjyaku   Mon Oct 13, 2008 7:49 pm

Onzuka banjyaku was in flower today.
This is a popular Astrophytum hybrid.
Banjyaku means a hybrid of myriostigma x ornatum. Onzuka was used in this case in stead of a normal myriostigma.
Since Onzuka itself is cv, you can see varias faces in plants.
I think this plant in the photo has strong gene of Onzuka.

Calycium
I knew the cactus of Onzuka banjyaku was existing.
The plant in the photo is created by my self, F1 plant.
I couold see many faces of the hybrids made form one batch of seeds.
This plant is one of good one.
Many of them are yellow color from seedling and disappeared. (weak!)

parrotsheaven
The Onzuka banjyaku in the photo is created by:
Mother: Onzuka
Father: ornatum

I have not started to create any hybrids yet in this spring.
I did a crossing last year:
Mother: ornatum v nudum
Father: Onzuka
I sown seeds on 04/09/08. Just 3 were germinated. I will graft them soon.

Another classic! There are some amazing looking astros.

I wrote a post before, but i think i pushed the wrong button and it disappeared. Which is typical. But basically I was curious to know if it was able to self pollinate.
