San Rainbow my friend has his loph in the ground and so far the frost has not killed it. It have been in the ground for 9 years. We had a couple of -3's last year too.

I took this photo back in March at his place. He does go out and cover some when frosts are predicted though this one included

My arios get sun for at least 3/4 hours a day and they will be getting sun this summer too as I have been too soft on them by protecting them during summer with bright light but no sun Rolling Eyes

Hey San Rainbow,
dont be to hasty to put your plants out in the frost. Leave them outside in the cold undercover to aclimatise to the cold first before moving them to a spot will they will get frosted, otherwise the frost will burn them. I learnt the hard way Sad
Same goes for moving plants from inside to outside in full harsh sun.
Once again.. I learnt the hard way Sad

oh and parrotsheaven that is a beautiful plant. Is it a L.Williamsii. or a L.Fricii var albiflora?

bob-bob its williamsii and I managed to get a couple of nice plants from him that he cut off. So it would be much bigger than this as he takes a few off everynow and then.

I agree with the keeping them undercover too only my big ones are out in the elements. As for the sun that is why my arios are in it now getting them ready for a few hours of morning sun in summer.

As my friends have such a big garden they spend a lot of time running around covering and uncovering sensative plants in winter and summer. They have to move a lot of plants before summer gets here too. Its been so dry here and things that have not got sunburnt before are doing so now and they think its because of the lack of rain.

Its probably been in this spot for 9/10 years and not sure if they shifted it from their old place or not. So yeah its fairly old

When I showed him what the birds had done I can't repeat what he had to say Laughing

So now he is going to shift it to a more protected spot and hope like hell the birds don't get it again.

birds??? I had a similar looking problem a few years ago with a loph I kept on an indoor window sill, it was probobly around the same size too and could not figure out what the problem was until shortly before it died, I discovered a caterpiller of the cut-moth variety was coming up from underground in the early mornings and feasting on the plant, maybe if you have birds then its because you also have caterpillers? affraid
