Trichocereus Pancho

Bought on eBay no less a 150mm rooted specimum, and she looks pretty good. Just planted it up, and have decided to be strong and not water it in. Funny thing is, it's my second, but this one has an almost white tip that is curved around. It has dark brown spots on the tip, and does not look at all like my other San Pedro.

Is this normal, and does anyone have any idea why the tip would be almost white?

Do you mean Trichocereus pachanoi?

The brown sounds like regular scarring. The white tip sounds like light deprivation.

Trichocereus pachanoi is from Ecuador. I am moving this thread to the minor areas forum.

I have it in my green house sitting under 50% shade cloth and it should green up I hope then over winter.

Yeah sounds like etiolation, shade cloths a good idea cause she will be very sensitive to light & could get sunburn easily.

If the tip is substantialy thinner u might want to consider removing it could cause problems when it starts to fatten up again.

the question I have then is...
should I cut the tip off?

What does anytone think about the light colouration, and bending top?

Don't worry T.Pach is tough as nails and in the Aust climate grows like mad hatter. Just leave it be and let it grow Smile

Depending on how badly that tip is damaged it will either green up and begin to grow or if the apical meristem has been damaged growth from that tip will halt. Now either new pups form or the plant will be dormant for a period.

Thanks for that - great advice. Will move it from 75% to 50% shade later in the year and toughen it up slowly.
