Yes, the thought of me actually growing seed is very scary. I just purchased 20 A.Asterias seeds, 10 Est Calles ones and 10 Texas ones. 10 A.Onzuka x Myriostigma and 10 Echinocereus Stramineus seeds. Only one problem, i havent got a propogator set up haha. Will be in the process of makeing one this week.

good luck! looking forward to see how you go. i haven't grown echinocereus from seed but astros in general are very easy to germinate. then they are slow after that.

no, i got hold of a water bed heater last year. but I have seen heat cable that can be immersed in water at local pet shop. in Wills St. they also have sheets of heat pad that go under the aquariums . the chap mentioned that people do buy them for seed raising,. so if this mat fails then thats what I;ll get. I also found out that underslab floor heating can be cut to size. they were at the Home Show here a few weeks ago. the heat cable is inserted in a fibreglass mesh that can be cut between the cord and reversed to make up the width you might need, they will also make to order. didnt mention costs though. The progagator so far is nearly completed with one half of the upper part hinged for ease of access. and then smaller panels at the front which will enable access at intervals. wanted to take a pic but hubby says wait till its finished so I'll have to be quick wont I.
