gymnocalycium damsii is a great plant. Ragonesei is a really really great plant. i too have some ragonesei seedlings coming along. i have two mature plants and pollinated them to get the seed, because the are not self fertile, and grew them on from there. i agree they are extremely slow growing, both as seedlings and as larger plants. mature plants will slowly (very slowly) fill a 2in pot and then stop growing, then they are fully grown. however they are good for flowers and can flower continuously from spring through summer and most of autumn. one of the longest flowering seasons of any cactus.

Ragonesei is now my second fav gymno, after this rather large G. quehlianum. it has even bigger flowers than ragonesei, large white with a red centre. on the right is a baby of the same species in a 2in pot for comparison:

yeah CC don't seem to have the biggest range of gymnos. they have some nice G. baldianum, denudatum, multiflorum, mihanovichii, damsii and ragonesei from the top of my head. Try cactusland at vic markets for G.horstii. i plan to start collecting gymnos, such cool plants

Are horstii self pollinating (and if so, chances of being fertile?) I have one which is getting buds on it - there are 4 on it coming through...
