Ill sow enough of each to do some experimenting remember ive never grafted to peri before so i expect a few failures will post pics of everything set up peri is doing well might try one or two tonight although seedlings are 4-5 months old i might have to try and apply pressure on graft will see what i can come up with. I need to buy a cheap dslr camera to take some nice close ups my camera is to fuzzy. I would never had tried any of this if i hadnt joined this forum and seen the great success of some of the grafting. The wife aint to happy with me bringing all of this inside as she thinks ill start taking over rooms so im starting with what i think is small until further negotiations with my very patient wife.

i think your right about your wife being patient and not being happy about moving inside... although at lease she can have the front yard

Today i noticed germination asterias varietes only . I grafted some seedlings last night of astro asterias scions were older than i hoped for but ill see how they go.

Congrats on giving pereskiopsis a try I firmly believe you will get better results using younger seedlings (1 week to 2 months), pereskiopsis achieves it superiority through its ability to accept extremely young seedlings and expedite growth in their early stages. By using 2-5 month old seedling you are in my opinion reducing the effectiveness and advantages of pereskiopsis.

I have grafted Ariocarpus and Lophophora to pere less than 1 week after germination. If I was going to wait until the seedlings were 5 months old I would graft them to a more permanent stock like Trocho or Harrisia.

Thanks for your advice it would be good to see the difference between younger scions. So ill take plenty of photos.

My very first graft onto periskiopsis ill let ya know how it goes. I have had seed germination of most astophytums some arios are just starting and epithalantha has germinated. I will be looking for a size i can manage before grafting. But it would be good to do experiment at different ages of scions to see results.

i reckon that kabuto(am i right? i only know what seedlings look like because that is all i have to look at ) looks ok on outdoor peri and i reckon it will take

I have found that the stock i was using wasnt growing vigorus when i grafted so things are moving slow about 70-80% success rate all my seedlings are up now and i am preparing stock so ill have a better success rate. The one thing i dont like about peri is the hair like spines. Other than that im happy so far. Some pis later when there worth taking.

was that the stock from my hot house? i never tried grafting to it but it was definately not growing as vigorous as the indoor stuff and spines were larger. Yes those hairy spines can be a real pain especially if you get them up your nose

Yes it was the hothouse ones as the others ones you gave me are doing a bit better. I can deffinately tell that most of the scions have joined properly i am feeding them now and they are out of humidity chamber. I just love that when i am up and going properly that i can graft whenever i want. I will graft onto periskiopsis until i have a permanant supply of harrissia seedlings. All of the grafts i do onto peri will be short term solution as i will degraft onto on roots or perminent stock. I think peri is a very good grafting stock to get good union between stock and scion when scions are small seedlings. I cant wait to try some multi grafts in the future. And i cant wait for the stock i have cut ready for grafting starts to move as im dying to do some more grafting. This time i wont rush and will make sure everything is perfect before i do anymore grafting about another two weeks. And darren i have heaps of nice little seedlings you can have to graft aswell.

i have got to finish my new graft proporgator first because i have been banished to the shed and it is too cold... everything has stopped growing and is starting to get eaten by some UFO's. the new propogator is going to be a beauty all i have to do is figure out how to inclose the front and set up the grow bed so the whole thing will be a humid warm inclosed aquaponics system just waiting to be overgrown by peri... it is going to go absolutely nuts.

Cool cant wait to see i might have to steal some of your ideas before you copywrite them. Im still using a temporary set up but will be making a permenant one soon as ill run out of room otherwise. Sorry to hear you have been banished outside i have to be very nice to my wife so the same doesnt happen to me.
