PostSubject: No water for 2 months, problem?   Mon May 24, 2010 7:56 pm

I'm going on vacation and I'll be away for at
least two months. Will my cacti survive this and should I do anything to
protect them? Can / should I leave them in the sun? And yes, I live in the northern hemisphere.

Ideally I would want my cacti not only to survive but to grow. Perhaps the cotton string trick would work? (Although yes, I know they want to dry in between...)

What sort of cacti do you have? Some plants are extremely drought tolerant; others less so.

Some are (probably) echiopsis pachanoi and others I have actually no idea.

If you could post some photos it may be helpful. I know that pachanoi likes both water and fertillising during the warmer months... as do many cacti, so this is a factor you may want to consider.

what about the cotton string trick? explain Smile

I think they will survive with no water anyway, they will just dehydrate a lot , but who knows. It might be a good idea to repot any pachanois that are rootbound [big for their pot]

but you're in sweden, how dry and hot can it be? Sure not like in southern greece. Smile
