A thought occurred to me whilst snacking on a hardboiled egg this evening...

A lot of cacti, particularly mexican miniatures, seem to grow in their native environment amongst limestone-rich soils. This would have to provide both a source of calcium and keep the pH up. Is it helpful to add small amounts of limestone, seashells or crushed eggshell to potting mixes? And if so, which species would most benefit from this?
