We also started to see Ferocactus (Hamatocactus) hamatacanthus..

And a favorite (yep another!) Sclerocactus (Glandulicactus) uncinatus. While they should be V. wrightii, I'm a little unsure...

The reason I'm unsure as to it being wrightii or not, is that wrightii is supposed to have really dark brown flowers, whereas v. uncinatus has orange flowers. Walking back to the car, I found this ! We were very close to the Mexican border, so perhaps it jumped the fence ?? Laughing

A nice sprawling Echinocereus was in these parts too... Echinocereus enneacanthus

And as I mentioned at the very start of this thread, I found a new appreciation for the Opuntia family on this trip. We saw a fair few in flower and they were pretty spectacular..

The next few days would see us explore a place I'd been longing to visit since I first got interested in Cacti back in the 80's...This was going to be good! bounce

Thanks for the kind words folks...so one of the first stops was near the Rio Grande, where we found some familiar friends, even if they can be hard to spot...The lens cap gives a clue to one, but can you see the other ?
