it looks like it's pupping. It also looks like it's sort of irregular. I think there's a nother grafted asterias seedling doing that.

seed source is from a friend that has a massive collection of astros, some quite unique, but I don't remember he having a pupping/mosntrosa asterias, but I might be wrong.

well, what do you think?

I am rightfully feeling lucky with this strange treat? Or it is normal?

pereskiopsis does tend to increase pupping ,but you could be lucky, ive never grafted asterias myself ...

It's pupping... but as to what it's also doing, well I think that may be anybody's guess.

Can't wait to see what it looks like in a few months though... Cool

as you guys know i have not been graftin long but i have grafted very young asterias and myrio's generally under a week old seedlings and they tend to go a little crazy... if i had a camera i could show you some of the freaks i have propagated in the last year. Most of the freaks seem to have sorted themselves out over the last three months but extremely heavy pupping. I have also noticed a varying difference in the amount of rips that pups are coming out with but they also seem to be sorting themselves out. cactuscook may want to add a post here of his theory of early grafting and where the cut is made on the seedling. I tend to follow his belief and look forward to him explaining it a little more in depth

Hmmmm

maybe it's a strong initial push of a successful graft that causes the scion to pup when it would normally not unless losing the top.

I doubt very much if this would happen if it was growing on own roots. I have grafted seedlings before and made my cut on the scion very low close to the root this seems to make scion produce offsets not like this one but from the base of scion. My pictures of ubelmanniana grafts shows this.
