PostSubject: Bloody Birds !!!!   Sun Feb 13, 2011 3:30 pm

Birds keep making their way into my cactus shelter and absolutely slaughtering my plants Sad heaps of Loph and Ariocarpus seedlings have been damaged or ripped out and a bunch of large Astrophytum are badly damaged. I say shelter because it is not a typical greenhouse but a long shelf I built with a roof attached.

I have setup a scare crow out of old clothes, any other ideas ?

I think the culprits are large multi coloured parrots or similar.

Can you get some clear plastic strips, and hang them down from the roof? If you space them out a little it shouldn't trap too much heat.

If your electrically inclined you could maybe get a motion detecting frog, and rig it up to a horn. The neighbours (and you) might not like it though.

If you think its parrots, I wouldn't suggest getting a cat, but if its india myna birds or something, then get a cat.

bird netting like the stuff used over fruit trees and vines over any doors windows etc... it shouldn't affect the airflow whatsoever .

I use it to keep the cat out of the garden, he doesn't like climbing it...I live in an area with an abundance of vineyards so always plenty of 2nd hand netting around Very Happy
