PostSubject: $2,540 cactus!   Thu Feb 16, 2012 1:45 am

Hi all, I found this humorous, although my wife was horrified for an hour or so LOL. Since this is 'around the fire' thought I'd add this funny tale.
She was bidding on a cactus on ebay, and had been pretty sick, so wasn't fully concentrating, and put in a bid for a cactus......
and missed the decimal point.
Yes, she bid $2,540 instead of the $25.40 she was planning on.
Her bid, of course was the winning bid.
The seller was kind and fair enough to realize it was an error, and in the end she got it for her intended high bid.
But for about an hour she was panicking, and was horrified at the thought of having to mess her feedback by a bid retraction, etc.
Anyhow, just thought I'd share Smile

Funny you say that I saw a cactus go for a massive figure on ebay a little while ago. I will see if I can find the link.

It is a pretty neat looking cacti. Maybe even better yet, I'll get my wife to bid on it Very Happy

Very interesting cactus I have no idea how it could survive in those conditions.

Crikey that is way to expensive i have a few a little smaller would never sell them as they are some of my favourites but if someone was silly enough to pay that for them i would sell them in a flash. JUST like some things on ebay fetch ridiculous prices i guess some people must be rich check this out.

I forgot to add that this did not meet the reserve price, like really how much is it really worth. My answer is as much as someone is willing to pay for i think $150 would be way too much but over $2000 no way. This seller is one of the best for haworthias in the USA.

Don't get me wrong - that's a cool little Haworthia - but I'm not sure it's two grand worth of cool little Haworthia. Laughing

I agree i would be reluctant to pay $200 imagine if you payed $2000 then six months later lost it. Sad

I suppose a plant is worth as much as someone is prepared to pay for it. A particularly unusual or rare plant will obviously command a higher price than a common variety.

That said, the above mentioned Brachicereus nesioticus - rare and pretty much unheard of in cultivation - to me is a fairly bland and unappealing plant. Horses for courses, I suppose.
