Done!

I did notice though that there were only about 250 signatures on it. They say they want 300 ... I don't know if that would be enough to sway the government.

One of the problems could be lack of awareness. I have to admit that I didnt know about most of this until quite recently. Mea culpa. But I fear that Im probably not the only one.

I am not sure that it will come to this - I have no idea what form these laws will eventually take. But it may give the government power to confiscate large numbers of plants. People need to be aware of this possibility. a good number of mine could go. Theres a fair bit of money there, I wonder if they have thought about compensation.

The stupid thing is that they have been also looking at banning a number of other plants too, which possibly include the state tree, and other national symbols. And stupider on their part, most types of gum tree can be ground into sawdust, which according to the politicians and their 'scientists', is a quick easy precursor for mescaline. So are they going to ban all the Eucalypts? Why don't they go and worry about REAL crimes, not this sort of thing.
It was the apparent lack of any science-based evidence in the Federal government's proposals that had the scientists, VAADA and ADCA concerned:

Politics and science don't mix well. One of the problems is that very few pollies have any scientific training, or any real understanding of the subject. And it looks as though they are out of their depth with this one. Again. They're bloody hopeless!

Do you feed it with anything special? I have a small Echinocactus ingens that hasn't budged in two years. These are also allegedly slow to start.

Actually they're very cunning. They had an agenda - to get all the states to agree on a uniform drug law model. Facts and public input would have gotten in the way. Unexpectedly it happened, so now they're working around it.

If lophophora importation wasn't illegal then the prices of lophs would be a lot lower and who knows - they probably could be viable for drugs then.

I don't know much about how much alkaloids are in them and how much are needed for drugs though (and this probably shouldn't be discussed here either).

P.S. This thread got really of topic...
