PostSubject: Desperately seeking...   Mon Dec 24, 2012 11:05 pm

I'm looking to buy seeds or a small cutting (preferable) for the following:

Any species of the former genius Pelecyphora. But preferably
Pelecyphora aselliformis (Mammillaria pectinifera) I think the rest are under Turbinicarpus now.

Micranthocereus estevesii
Opunita gosseliniana

Pilosocereus lanuginosus
Pilosocereus diersianus
Pilosocereus flexibilispinus
Cereus hankeanus

Can anyone help me?

P. aselliformis and M. pectinifera are two different species. I have both types of plants and they look distinctly different when viewed in detail.

Ah i see. The lady at the Roraima nursery clearly has given me incorrect info. I absolutely love the pectinated spines on these types of cacti so anything with this feature is fine by me.

Hopefully these photos will show up correctly.
Although they look somewhat similar, they really are two very different cacti, even the location where the flowers come from is different.
And for record, I like the spines and tubercles on the Pelecyphora much better than on the Solisia Very Happy

Pelecyphora aselliformis

Solisia pectinata (Mammillaria pectinifera)

wow they really are different. Are these your plants? I wonder how a nursery owner could have gotten that one so wrong. I think wikipedia has it listed wrong too!!

No, those are not my plants. The ones I linked pictures here are from an excellent reference work. I was inside and it was late, so I linked to those so you could see clearly what the two plants looked like. I don't keep any good examples of the mammillaria, as they are not half as cool as the Pelecyphora.
