I know this one is as common as dirt but the colour is almost unbelievable.  Sadly bout 10 minutes after this was taken my daughter promptly munched it. Oh well.

I notice my Astrophytum Nudum Quadricostatum was slumped over, i thought straight away that it had root rot, pulled it out of soil and yes it did.
Cut it off at the base, powdered it up and let it sit for 2 weeks in the shed.
Amazingly it had flowered in just in a week with no roots in pretty much no light at all in the shed.
It had a flower bud before i cut it.
Tried to pollinate it but no luck lol

...
What is the "powder" you used?

When I cut a cactus, I mop up the excess moisture with a tissue and hope for the best.  However I note some cactus are very watery and the cut never dries and continues to rot.  Will the powder work on these?

The powder i use is a 'Plant cutting powder' it can be picked up from bunnings from the garden section.
Using the powder should help on your cuttings, as you said mop up the excess moisture, a few times if needed then apply the root powder, the powder will help it dry as well.
Generally most cactus you cut up should not rot and be ok for a few weeks even without cutting powder, what did you have that kept rotting?

'Peruvian Old Man - Espostoa species'.  The air may have been too humid for the cut to dry.

Thanks for the information re the powder and its use.  I was in Bunnings yesterday and made a point of looking.
I believe the product I saw was this one:
Yates Cutting Powder

I find that works really well.

I've used it to root all my cuttings this year (6 so far) all with good results. I even dip my perekiopsis in it!

Mammillaria Crinta ssp duweii
This plant was stashed away and forgotten about in the back of my greenhouse many eon's ago, after being half eaten by a rat. I rediscovered it a few months ago. Completely healed with a very interesting monstrosed growth.

Its a real shame that when i had a rat chew on my Ariocarpus, Asterias, Leuchtenbergia Principis and Lophophora they did heal with monstrose growth!!!
I spent almost a day trying to rat and mouse proof my greenhouse to stop them from having a high midnight snack!!!!!!!
I have herd of plants monstrose and cresting after a rat has chewed on it.

This little beauty was planted in august of 1996. It is seed grown and 10cm in diameter. It has flowered profusely since the rain has stopped.

Really chuffed to have my first flowers on seed raised Geohintonia this weekend - growing on it's own roots. Only one in flower this year, hope it's brothers and sisters oblige next year !
