Depending on how many seeds you sow. I use 2" square pots and these will take 10 to 15 astro seeds.

I sprinkle a little sand over the seeds so they are just covered and when they have germinated I sprinkle a little more so the roots have a chance to anchor in. I have used a tooth pick and tweezers to place some that just don't get into the soil.

I use the square or rectangular takeaway containers depending on the seeds - i've got about 100 LW Mex 54 in one of the square ones at the moment, with a coarse sifted river sand (2cm deep)... germ at the moment is looking around 60%, and this is only 3 weeks into the germ...

Do you need to place any holes in the takeaway containers at all?

No not for the fist month at least. I usually put a few in the bottom for easier watering.

if your seedlings start to fall over is that because they cannot get roots in and the reason for sprinkling more sand over seedlings. My ferrocactus letispinus seedlings are only a few weeks old but are all falling over?

Don't worry if they are only a few weeks old just let them be for a while, once they are a bit bigger you can add a layer of sand or rocks to the top and that will support them. Your biggest issue with new seedings is disease/bacteria.

650 ml rectangular....takeaway containers are great because they are transparent and moisture gauging can be done without disturbing the seedlings/ is thousands of seeds too many to sow in one hit? lol
