lewis, that gymno opened yesterday. White petals with a maroon throat

well that would fit my id of G.quehlianum or ochoterenae (/ochoterenai). have fun trying to distinguish between those two. or it could be another one altogether. they are extremely ridiculously variable.
here is a discussion about them:
http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9160
and here is an awesome site on gymnos:
http://cactus0022.hp.infoseek.co.jp/Gymnocalycium.htm
i would have guessed at ochoterenai, though this quehlianum specimen looks quite similar to your plant from where im sitting:
http://cactus0022.hp.infoseek.co.jp/G.quehlianum2_Uhlig_Seed_U4805.JPG
(and, of course, in typical contrary gymnocalycium fashion, apart from the flower looks nothing like my quehlianum at all).
edit: it is officially spelt 'ochoterenai' according to desert-tropicals;
'Gymnocalycium ochoterenae synonym of Gymnocalycium ochoterenai'

PostSubject: Flowers of Gymno spegazzinii   Mon Nov 17, 2008 12:32 pm

It is hard to open flowers of Gymno spegazzinii because of strong spines. Currently Gymnos have many flowers.
All spegazzinii are very simmilar but I use names of seed supplier.
spegazzinii v cadenasium, sown seed Nov. 2003, degrafted Oct. 2005

spegazzinii v loricatum short spines, sown seed Nov. 2003, degrafted Oct.2005

spegazzinii v armtum, sown seed Nov. 2003, degrafted oct.2005

spegazzinii v major, sown seed Nov. 2003

spegazzinii v ornatum, sown seed Oct. 2004, degrafted Nov.2006

Looks like a white-flowered G. baldianum to me. Very nice. That Sulco is pretty sexy too...

Dunno? Still undecided, you know more about the genus lewis, what's your call?

I thought it might be G. baldianum, but the flower colour made me think otherwise and also the fact that it looks different (there are similiarities though) from my other baldi, this is going to flower within the next couple of days, pics coming.

i'd say G.quehlianum for the noid.
from where im sitting its not dissimilar to platense:
http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/GYMNOCALYCIUM/Gymnocalycium_platense/Gymnocalycium_platense/Gymnocalycium_platense.htm
'...and it is very similar (if not the same) to G. quehlianum.'
and IMO its also somewhat similar to this quehlianum i found earlier:

Thanks lewis, I have a feeling it's that one. Really not convinced that it's a baldi. Though as mentioned I am a novice when it comes to Gymnos.

Here a few more pics:

A. asterias fma. nudum (same one as my avatar, it gave me two at once this time Very Happy )

First time this asterias X capricorne has given flowers, I really like them.

Rebutia heliosa v. condorensis now I can see why this is considered amongst the showiest of the cacti flowers, been waiting for this one to do it's thing for a while now. Look at that colour!!!

Well as mentioned I made some crosses of Astros a few weeks back and it looks like I have seedpods forming, my first success with breeding, some 3-way hybrids should be interesting and I look foward to the reults. I also did some more cross pollination today and if it works I should get capricorne X SK X capricorne X asterias and visa versa. Looking foward to these as well.

Here's a few from me...

A happy little Rebutia:

A Notocactus of some description... most likely a noid:

And finally, an Echinopsis chamaecereus "Firechief"... or so the label said. I always thought Firechief had orange-red flowers?
