I have a flower coming on for the first time for this cactus. It was labeled Trichocereus camarguensis when i bought it 3 years ago. It has a really deep red flower bud and the pictures ive found on the net show a green bud with white flowers. The column certainly looks like a Trichocereus camarguensis but can anyone help as to why the flower bud is red? I can't wait to see the whole flower!

Its not a Trichocereus but looks like a Cliestocactus and this is how the flowers look, they do flare a little at the end.

Wow!! Betty, you are amazing at ID! I think you're on the money there, looks like a Cleistocactus hyalacanthus to me, now that i've browsed a few photos. The flower doesnt look like it is going to open much, but i'm excited at having this species i didn't think i had Smile

Thanks!

Awesome pectinifera Betty! I love it!

Second one looks like a Parodia, cool orange flower.

Here is one for all the Mexican lovers out there, it's kinda small but was impressed when it flowered, more buds growing too.

Strombocactus disciformis

Unfortunately the spines are so dense they are pushing the flower out of shape. Am just happy that the little guy flowered for me. Now all I have to do is wait around 20 years before it is a decent sized specimen Rolling Eyes

Betty,
The Mammillaria pectinifera is just gorgeous, the spines alone make the plant outstanding, but to top it off with such wonderful flowers, its just scrumptious drool

It's not a Mammillaria, its a Solisia Wink (IMO that is)
Vicki you are spot on; 'outstanding' sums it up perfectly. It was originally classified as a Pelecyphora because of the spines. then the separate genus Solisia just for it. and now its in Mammillaria.
info:
http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/MAMMILLARIA/Mammillaria_pectinifera/Mammillaria_pectinifera/Mammillaria_pectinifera.htm
heres mine:

already finished flowering.. you can see the dried up flower remains
and here's the similar but rarer, slower, more difficult and highly sort after Mammillaria solisioides (i.e. resemblance to Solisia)

hey all, loving the pics, keep them coming.

I've been collecting cacti for about 2 years now, I don't have the monster collections I've seen on here but one day.

Here's a couple of pics I took last week.
