PostSubject: Grafting 2yo arios to trichs   Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:47 pm

OK... I have a 2yo retusus that i am wanting to graft to a pach. I actually have two, but until i get some bigger ones, i haven't got the balls to put both of them on the line...

2 questions.

First... is it the same as grafting a loph to the pachs, ie, humidity for a little bit, and some pressure to the scion (usually a stocking stretched over it and held fast by the spines on the pach). I'm pretty good at grafting the lophs to trichs now, even if i say so myself... Smile

Second. If i graft the root of the ario, where do i have to cut the ario to ensure that the base will also pup?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated Smile

Thanks

follow this process. http://kadasgarden.com/grafting2.html

that's how i graft them....one thing i like to do though is also bevel the scion just a little bit. otherwise, it works great.

i also personally dislike weights, stockings etc....vinyl/electrical tape is the way to go imo!

Yeah gilligan I want to know how it goes. Is it possible for you to get a pic of the Ario before you graft so it gives us all an idea of the size, if it works well it gives us a bit of a pictorial. Have been considering doing the same thing with some smaller seedlings. Best of luck.

Keen to see some results.

Excellent gilligan. Mega good vibes coming your way. Let us know how it all goes. Looks like you did it well though so should work i'm thinking.

Can I ask Gillian, why haven't you aligned the scion with the vascular ring of the stock?
Wouldn't it be better that way?

i've got half of the vascular rings of both stock and scion aligned - you can see that the stock ring aligns with the centre of the scion ... i do most of my grafts like this, as i've found that trying to align them fully will often result in the graft not taking for some reason...

Check out kada's grafting tek, says something similar about the alignments...

It's interesting as I haven't been told of this detail by anyone else.
It would explain some of the results that I've been getting with a graft I did recently.

Kada's thread explains it pretty clearly though. I'll try and re-graft and see if it makes a change.

I'm still trying to work up my grafting skills but your one looks pretty healthy Gilligan, nice work. Smile

Grin... all i can say is try, try again...

But not if you don't have enough to try with... or you have only one cactus in the collection and balls of steel... Smile

i've just found that a lot of it is trial and error... Luckily a lot of the time, the components are relatively forgiving...
