Hi and welcome Astroboy Smile

I have some spare Astro hybrid seeds to trade if interested. Some aren't properly labeled as I am a bit slack regarding labeling, but they should be fairly interesting. All hybridised by myself and fairly fresh, some more than others.

Let me know if interested.

First of all welcome to the ACF Astroboy.

I mean this as no disrespect but I thought most of Trichocereus panchoi were clones in Australia and it is difficult to have them pollinate with eachother.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm was just curious.

Hi Kanje!!

You are right, it is most likely That you may need a female and male plant for the flower to produce seeds. You can also use an specimen that belongs to the same family.
I got the next article from the Cultivar website, its a russian magazine dedicated to cacti only.
Most of cacti to set full value seeds demand cross-pollination by the pollen of another plant belonging to the same species. Unfortunately, even if you have another plant it may not bloom or they bloom in turn. There is a method to "cheat" the nature and get germinating seeds.
A thick transparent nectar that secretes in spring above areoles of Hamatocactus setispinus, Coryphantha clava and some other species of Ferocactus will help us. I dip a sharpened match into the nectar, apply it onto the pistil of the flower that should be pollinated and then, in 2-3 minutes, apply the pollen of the same plant. In most cases the fruit is set and it gives full value seeds. (№ 2 - 1985).

Cheers

L.schottii monstrose is rare but well worth the search. its super cool, extremely bizzare and my favourite columnar cactus. They are slow growing and tend to be passed from private grower to private grower rather than offered for sale commercially. It is fairly easy to grow but scale love the things.

its easy to see why these are so highly sort after and popular:

'CULTIVAR' is indeed an awesome site and very informative. Very Happy Very Happy

Hi Lewis!!

I was looking for quite a while for one of this cactus. I can get them from overseas but they wont make it past customs, since they are in the list of prohibited imports. Anyway, I was buying a few seeds from Vlado from arizona cactus here in melbourne. And told him I was after one monstrose cactus and luckely he hooked me up with Llayal from The Lara nursery who had one for sale and managed to pick it up for $150 for an 18 inch height specimen.
I may try to graft it on to a T. peruvianus maybe I can get it to grow much faster.

Thanks for the info, lewis

You can't import live plants into Australia unfortunately. prohibited or not, it's almost impossible.
