PostSubject: Ariocarpus fissuratus   Sun Mar 08, 2009 10:26 am

We had a good rain last week and morning and evening became cooler.
Several Ariocarpus have started to open flowers.
The attached photo is Ariocarpus fissuratus f Big Bend, sown seed on 31/10/03.
I grafted seedlings on hylocereus undatus. The scion was grown quite well.
Last year, I degrafted the plant.
The degrafting of fissuratus is not easy. I lost fissuratus quit often during degrafting process. It is difficult to stop liquid when you cut fissuratus. Liquid comes out from cutting face and continue to run even if you use a drying powder.
I did not cut fissuratus for this one. I cut undatus and remove soft tissue. About 30 mm of undatus vascular bandle was remained on the bottom of fissuratus. This plant does not have own root, growing through 30 mm of undatus vascular bandle which has roots.

Hellonasty and trigonus

I have experienced just one successful fissuratus degrafting, own root.
The plant was smaller.

When you start degrafting with short vascular bandles, the plant will rely on the vascular bandles for a while but own-roots will come out eventually. I have not confirmed this with fissuratus but I have confirmed this with more than 20 Ariocarpus including hintonii and lloydii.

Retusus is easy to degraft, own-root.
