| Very impressive photography, My favourite is the second image with the bee in mid flight. Has anyone else seen bees like that in aus? Or is it a wasp? |

| great photos! the insect featured is a hoverfly, yes we have them in Australia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoverfly there are apparently 200 genera and 6,000 known species. http://images.google.com.au/images?hl=en&q=hoverfly&rlz=1R2GFRE_en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi |

| Nice pics Fingoen. Is that a Parodia? Lewis I have feeling that what you are seeing here in Aus is more likely one of these little fellas. Though as you say we have hoverflies too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_native_bee Just sayin' _________________ コレクタ

| Opening this unknown can will only result in worms all over my floor. Lucky I'm too tired to find the can opener. |

| i see hoverflies often especially in spring-early summer and they are much commoner than the native bee species around here.
though i do see a type of blue banded bee on occasion: http://images.google.com.au/images?gbv=2&hl=en&safe=strict&um=1&sa=1&q=blue+banded+bee+&aq=f&oq definitely not common though. ubiquitous feral honey bees outnumber them many many times here.
I liked the bumblebees in Tasmania. very cute, even if they are introduced. |
