This spring was wet and cool but it was hot yesterday. The maximum temperature was over 30 'C.
My asterias were in flower. The photo is 4 ~6 years old seedlings, mainly super kabuto.

Really nice Hanazono, I had a heap of flowers yesterday and think today will be much the same Smile I made a few interesting cross pollinations too.

beautiful hanazono

just a taste of adelaide summer... i forgot to turn my homebrew heatpad that i use to keep my babies warm off they were cooking by the time i got home from work!!! but funnily enough i had some good germination especially on mammilaria boolii and some echinocactus grusonii that had been in a baggie for a month with no germination at all. also gymnocalcium baldinum had a second wave of germination with four extra seedlings 2 weeks after the first 6 came up.

love your work!!!
regards

It was another hot day yesterday.
My grafted asterias cv hanzono kabuto opened 14 flowers together.
14 flowers are not record in my green house but it is surely many flowers.
The name of hanazono means "flower garden".

Wow, I've never seen so many flowers on one plant. How old is that one and how big in diameter is it? It is hard to tell from the picture.

Wow, that's a great photo. I like the tiny carpet of woolly tufts on the body, never seen it quite like that before.

Hellonasty
The diameter of the plant is a bit more 11 cm. I sowed seeds in 2003 and did seedling grafting. One of grafted seedling showed a strong Hanazono character. I took one of pups from the grafted seedling and grafted it in 2004.
Can I say it is 5 years old?
Cv hanazono is a small asterias. It will be grown by 7~8 cm with own root but this plant has been grown more because of grafted.

Bobblybook
The tufts are areoles. Cv Hanazono will get many areoles over the body when the plant was matured. You can not see tufts on young plants. Cactus flowers will come out from areoles and so cv Hanazono can make flowers as same as numbers of tufts potentially. The record in my greenhouse is 20 flowers.

The Hanazono is just gorgeous, certainly lives up to its name of flower garden.
