ACF Grafting Competition
Put you skills to the test.


When:

Seeds must be sown no sooner than 15th of November 2009


Categories:


* First Lophophora to flower *
* First Ariocarpus to flower *


Prize:
I will start another thread for images of the prizes.
People are encouraged to donate what they can to the prize pool to raise a stacks a bit.


Rules:


* Choice of grafting stock is at the grower's discretion.
* Post in this thread as entry to the comp before the start date.
* Post updates of your graft to help track the progress of the competition.
* The first person to post a flower in bloom is the winner of the respective category.
* No cheating.

Count me in ! Both Loph and Ario.

Please everyone post here if you want to enter. I suggest you start buying or trading seeds and organising stocks.....this will be fun. Don't worry if you start late, it doesn't matter just enter and you will be happier for it.

id like to do it too. i've never grafted before. i guess i need the inspiration
i can get loph seeds and if i can get ario seeds as well i will enter both catagories.
i like how no cheating is a rule lol

whats the average time scale for grafted lophs and arios to flower? and is there any particular species of ario that is likely to flower sooner (or to be really slow to flower?)

Scarab,

Grafted lophs will flower quite quickly I think 12months is very achievable and the winner will be more like 6-8. Arios are much different and will take around 18months+ Good luck.

I would like to join the comperition, Ariocarpus only.
Actually I have completed seedling graftings for this year. I think November and December are too hot for seedling grafting in SA but I will try.

Anyone have some spare loph seed ? I will be able to return the favor, my lophs just finished flowering I should have a heap of seed......just not soon enough.

I have Ariocarpus seed to trade.

I sowed seeds for ACF grafting competition this morning.
I have used a small heating pad for seeds germaination and set 6 pots.
H23: Ariocarpus kotshoubeyanus f Rio Verde-2 pots
H28: Ariocarpus furfuraceus cv Suguri cauliflower-2 pots
H38: Ariocarpus hybrid kotschoubeyanus x bravoanus v hintonii-2 pots
I will use H23, kotschoubeyanus f Rio Verde for the competiotion.
Target soil surface temperature: 30 'C (Volum setting-33 'C)
Top soil: Normal seedrising mix in market
Soil sterilization: Sprayed fungicide over seeds and top soil only
Inner seal: Pots are wrapped by a plastic seet

My last 5 williamsii seeds sowed today 1:35 pm Smile
Sowed in perlite/peat 50/50 approx. No heat mat, temperature in my house is around 25-30 degrees. Photo coming in a day or two once there's actually something to see.
Come on guys start planting!
