some closeups of these little babies... hows the pattern around the base of the smaller plant!!!

i think i damaged the growth point of the larger one and that is why it is pupping? they are under lights for 16/24 in standard potting mix which is constantly soaked in nitrosol soluble fertiliser but then left to dry for 1 day in every 7.

i have no idea about growing plants so this is all new to me but i am loving it!!! i am pruning my grafting stock everyday

Please have a look the updated photo, taken on 02/02/10.
You can see a flower bud starting to appear.
The body size is still very small but I think autumn will be soon.
2 of 10 grafted kotschoubeyanus f Rio Verde for the competition have flower buds.

Yes enter Mutant, don't worry about late entry. I have still not grafted any of my lophs yet Sad

Here is a pic of my Ariocarpus on tiny Hylocereus. I have another 2 on larger stock, they are doing a little better I will post them as soon as I time to take a shot.

Cool, I did a couple last night, but I doubt they will take as the stocks were mostly unrooted. I will repeat as soon as some pere's have been prepared.

Darren
Ariocarpus will flower in autumn. Plant will recognize the season in autumn by "gradually shortened day time".
I have never grown Ariocarpus under artificial sunlights. Can you simulate "gradually shortened day time".
If you can I think you can see some flowers under artficial sunlights.

I believe there are a number of factors to stimulate a bloom, ie. humidity,
temp and light. I've been curious on the idea of inducing flowers in artificial
conditions.
Let us know how you go.

It's not about first or second place. The idea is to stimulate the communication of ideas and techniques in regards to grafting.

I was away from home this week and came back last night.
I checked plants this morning and found developed flower buds on Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus f Rio Verde-A.
I could also see similar size of buds on the scion-C1.
