PostSubject: A rising star in 2009   Mon Nov 16, 2009 11:41 am

I crossed Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus x bravoanus v hintonii last autumn. I collected seeds in September.
Normal fruit of kotschoubeyanus is pinkish white but the hybrid one was quite green.
I sowed seeds on 07/10/09 and germination ratio was poor. Seedlings were pale compared to other Ariocarpus seedlings.

I grafted 2 seedlings on07/11/09 and it seems they have taken.
I took photo today. I also sowed additional seeds yeaterday.

Grafted seedlings have grown well. I have grafted 11 of these seedlings in total.
The attached photo, taken this morning is the same grafted seedling shown on 16/11/09.
I think this one is variegated.

Updated photo, taken on 30/01/10.
The scion has started to show both of hintonii and kotschoubeyanus characters.

Darren
The crossing of kotschoubeyanus x hintonii was almost 100 %.
In case of kotschoubeyanus, you can see the successful crossing evidence very soon but other Ariocarpus are diffcult to see the result soon.
Currently many Ariocarpus are in flower and I will try to make several new hybrids.
Hanazono.

Very good work Hanazono Smile I'm pretty sure I can see Hintonii in the tubercles, congrats.

Darren, have a look at these links, make your own comparison Smile

I could not be satisfied with the flower color of this hybrid.
I have tried to make darker flower color and crossed with an agavoides.
You can see fruits in the photo.
I will collect seeds and germinate them next spring.
