PostSubject: Hooray My Seeds are Germinating!   Tue Nov 24, 2009 10:49 am

I've actually managed to get some seeds to germinate this week. I've only got them in a warm spot in Dads giant tomato enclosure at the moment so i wasn't expecting anything, but I've had several. The stenocactus are germinating really well, one has seven popped up already but the astros were the first to germinate, and they have a shape already

Just wanted to share, I can't wait until I can build a decent propagator for them

Nice Olga!

It's exciting, isn't it?

How many seeds did you sow?

Tonnes lol. I think 200, there are twelve different ones. I got them all from eBay before I joined this forum so I might try the guy in Melbourne next time
I bought some lithop seeds from one seller which I am positive are dodgy, there was supposed to be 50 and there ended up being about 120 so I don't know if they were smashed I sowed them anyway but there has been no sign of life and it has been about a month.
But the ones from the other seller are going better than I expected, I just can't keep them warm all the time with the erratic weather here.

Yeah, nice. Maybe you should look into bottom heating them on a timer. Setting up a little terrarium type thing is incredibly easy and pretty cheap.

Not sure what species you are interested in the most, but seedsaustralia.net has a good range of Mexican species. So far germination rates have been pretty good to very good for the seeds I've sown. There are many more species I like to get from there, but I am going overseas in a few months, so sowing endless seeds is only going to make for a bigger problem.

Yeah the only problem I have is no space until our house is finished, we're living at our folks until it is done. There might be a bit of room in the shed which does have electricity, but it's mostly stuffed with our bookcases atm...
