Looks like a real beauty. At a guess I'd say it's an Echinopsis hybrid. If the bud was fuzzy prior to blooming, it's a fair bet that this is the case.

very nice eric... is that from those offsets you got from your friend?

i saw a beautiful red flower on an echinopsis yesterday and decided to knock on their front door and ask for an offset. so 2 hours later i managed to leave with what i came for but had a long conversation with a lonely elderly man. i think i made his day, now the cactus means a whole lot more, the fact that it was his mothers cactus and was one of the only remaining plants from an extensive garden which he was unable to maintain because he ended up in a wheelchair. i think i am going to call it echinopsis dougii
