| I thought this plant was one of the medusoid euphorbias, probably a gorgonis, but it's just produced this incredible flower and although I've searched the net I can't find any variety of euphorbia with a flower anything like this. Can anyone help with an ID?  |

| It's a Stapelia, not a Euphorbia... Stapelia variegata or a hybrid thereof....... Also called Orbea variegata by some....
Congrats on flowering it ! |

| Thank you so much Navajoa. It actually belonged to a neighbour, they were moving and were going to throw it out so of course I had to rescue it. It had sat on a wall in their yard in the same pot for 12 years, fully exposed to all the elements and completely neglected. When I got it I repotted it with some controlled release cacti/succulent fertiliser and two months later it has a flower and more to come. The flowers smell like rotting fish, but they're beautiful and unusual to look at. Thanks again, much appreciated  |

 Yep, that describes a Stapelia for sure. The smell is certainly not the nicest thing...
I've got a very similar plant (quite possibly a clone; it looks very nearly identical to yours), yet have had no luck getting it to flower. Aside from the fertiliser, are you giving this plant any special treatment? Is it growing under cover or in a greenhouse? |

| Hmmm my Mum reckons hers has flowered Lach, and it is in garden soil (granted they have great soil) in a hanging basket, so I reckon they're not too fussy. I took a cutting a while ago and it took really quickly,
I;m not sure I have the exact same one, it goes red in full sun |

| I got a couple of those grown from seed, 1,5+ year old or so...
Great to hear they can take harsh conditions / neglecting... |

I have it outside on the front verandah, it gets full morning sun until about 11am, part sun part shade until about 2pm and then it's in complete shade for the rest of the day so it's sheltered during the hot afternoon. I water it with rainwater when it dries out, usually every couple of weeks. |
