what do you guys make of these? - they are two of many pups that came from a grafted Astro myriostigma quad. all the pups appeared looking like flowers and turned into these. they all have multiple rib numbers - weird.

cheers

Jim

I know some Astros have this strange behaviour, that is pup instead of making fruits... I got a strange pup in one of mine too... Graft them. How long do you have the strain??

I think you are talking about the pup, shown at lower right on the attached photo.
It appears quite often on grafted myriostigma.
This flower bud/pup will turned to multi-ribs plant but it will be normal shape eventually.
I grafted a flower bud/pup years ago. It turned to multi-ribs plant once but it is normal shape currently.

WT,

I have seen similar things happen to astros before and I agree they look cool, it usually happens to grafted plants. As Hanazono says they usually grow out the extra ribs over time....Sadly.

There are a few topics on this over at astromania have a search there you should be able to find one.

I had a go at grafting one of them but it was hollow. I had to cut it quite close to the top to get good contact. will see what happens.

Yes, its inside is hollow but it is not necessary a perfect cutting face to graft.
20~30 % remained hollow is enought to graft.
