Hi all

i grafted this seedling of frailea onto pereskiopsis in october... i am getting good growth out of it and multiple pups. i got the seeds from an unopened flower off my own plant and have germinated another 30 seeds which are on own root and are only about 4mm across.

That's a beauty Darren I just bought two fraileas online, do they often clump? I haven't seen many of them.

as far as i can tell there are a few varieties that clump well. it looks like in the wild these plants form clumps but i am not sure if these clumps are pups or own root. i have a few batches of seeds of different varieties that i am going to put down soon.

Pretty cool Darren you done really well, they're nice little plants. If you're interested, maybe we could swap some seeds sometime when/if you have a few more than you need.

unfortunately i have no seed... i had two flowers but no seed came of them? i will deffinately trade some with you when i get the next lot though!!

i have about 20 seedlings & 5 grafted plants at the moment so i am sure i will get some seed sometime down the track.

thanks also QR & i havent forgotten about those plants for you i have transplanted a heap into small pots so when they have rooted i will send them.

I also like castanea and keeping own root cutivars.
castanea cv Oogata shidou
Sown seeds on 17/09/04
Diameter is 5.5 cm

Own root seedlings grow slowly
Seeds come from above plant and sown seeds on 30/09/04
Diameters are 3 ~ 5 cm, all flowring size

In flower

you never fail to impress hanazono... what are the characterestic differences between Oogata shidou & shidow? they look very similar.
i now have germinated seedlings of frailea grahliana & pygmea!

i am looking forward to a large collection of these little beauties!!!

Darren
This cultivar will be larger size than normal castanea in mature age.
Oogata = Large
Shidou = castanea

These are all very attractive plants. Yet another genus to add to the "to get" list...
