Wanted: Pereskia aculeata aka leaf cactus, barbados gooseberry, rose cactus.
NOT cv. 'Godseffiana'!!
normal form.
yes i want to grow the weed one lol.
can't find it anywhere here, only Godseffiana, got another one of them today in fact.
was thinking you folks up in NSW and QLD probably think its ironic that someone wants to grow this weed and you could help me out.
will buy/trade but don't have that much to trade, if you want Opuntia subulata monstrose cuttings i've got some though. or i will see what i can find.
thanks.

Now i've done some research i'll also accept P. grandifolia (large vining species, big leaves and flowers), portulacifolia, weberiana (develops caudex, only seen on overseas sites+books and don't know if its in cultivation in Aus) and Pereskia bleo (cool name, first pic). or any other Pereskia sp. other than Godseffiana for that matter. Laughing

this is by far the most neglected and unappreciated genus in the entire cactus family, but also contains some of the best flowers in the entire cactus family (pics google images):

Pereskia aculeata:

^^leaves of Godseffiana. beautiful but shy flowerer, and not overly vigorous.

The plants are absolutely magnificent! all leafy, i like em. not your typical cactus. still got the spines though lol. the flowers look more like roses or camellias. some species can even be considered non succulent, so it is possible to have a non succulent cactus. also its cool to show a 'non cactus' person a spiny succulent euphorbia and say 'this is not a cactus' and then go to a Pereskia and say 'but this is a cactus' Laughing. more people should grow them, and if they were more widely available i would. i looked to see if seeds are permitted into australia, only P. aculeata is! so the species that they consider is a 'noxious weed' is allowed in and all the good non invasive ones with awesome flowers are not permitted. its crazy!! could probably get some seeds in anyway though.
